Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 23, 2013 7:23 pm Hi all. This concerns a bit of pool safety but also contains many general questions about fences and responsible building work that I think it might belong in General Discussion. I'm new, and I need some help regarding an unsightly and slapdash fence that has been built by someone with questionable renovating knowledge. I don't want to go into too much detail about how this came about, but the boundary fence next to my pool has been repaired with colourbond sheet metal fencing. They are 180cm high and in various widths (around 80cm), screwed one on top of another in a staggered fashion on uneven ground. They are attached to existing timber paling fencing that is in a questionable state of repair, which has that aforementioned sheet metal fencing on the other side and decorative fencing on my side. That's three fences stapled together. From my side I see staggered bits of unpainted sheet metal with sharp corners along the top of my fence. That's right, it is not framed and the edges have been left sharp as they were cut. The whole thing looks ridiculous and unfinished like a construction site. It is an eyesore and made the backyard unpleasant to be in. I also think the sheeting might fly off in high wind as it is on the side of a hill and there are neighbours below. How can I get the person who did this scrappy piece of work to fix it? Do they have to have a builder's license to build this fence? Is this fence likely dangerous? Will the sheet metal fly off? Is this fence stable? Will it fall over? Can I get someone to inspect this work? Is there some kind of standard for fencing that I can point out to them? What other issues can you see? Your help, insight and opinion would be much appreciated. Thank you. Do they have to have a builder's license to build this fence? You dont need a licence to build a fence. You might need a licence to carry on a fencing business though depending on the state you live. Since you dont want to divulge circumstances , I cant give you advice on the other questions. Hey guys, what’s everyone opinion on James Hardie linea direct fix to frame? Would this be the most common method and anybody ever had any problems down the track? 0 5138 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair If the railhead is so poorly fixed it is also likely that the railhead is also non compliant, what about overflows and sealing railhead to the gutters?. 3 5963 |
