Hi,
I'm after some advice on building a fence along the top of a rock retaining wall on our property. We've seen fences where the uprights are attached to an 'anchor' that is concreted into the rocks, in such a way that the whole fence can be located quite close to the edge of the wall.
We've had one quote so far but the guy explained that he doesn't like installing the uprights like this, and prefers to sink them into the ground behind the top rocks of the retaining wall, so that they're stronger and not relying on the quality of the rock. I can see the sense in this but have also noticed so many fences around that are attached to the rock like this.
Please see the image below which shows what I am trying to describe.
Has anybody built a fence in this way or have any advice to add? We're keen to have the fence as close to the edge as possible since the yard isn't very large already. If for example it's too structurally unsound then we'll have to get them sunk into the ground instead.
Thanks very much, any advice greatly appreciated!
