Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 31, 2013 1:47 am Sorry, but I just feel a need to vent. Like many here, I watch SHA. But I am getting increasingly irritated by what they say one might get for a certain budget on the show versus what one might get in the real world. Earlier tonight the $14,000 budget extended to landscaping front and rear, new fences, demolition and reconstruction of a front verandah, demo and reconstruction of a rear pergola, a full repaint inside and out, granite kitchen benches, new fireplaces, furniture etc etc. I'm sorely tempted to try and get them to match their own prices. Re: Selling Houses Australia renovation costs 2Oct 31, 2013 7:48 am Agree, I know you often see Shayna and Charlie on the tools but sometimes I think even if I could do everything myself it would still cost more. I'm not sure they would outright lie about the budget though, the suppliers would obviously know they're going to get a plug in the credits and maybe a shot of their logo on a truck or uniform and discount strongly to get the gig - perhaps these are the prices/budgets we hear. Although I do actually love this show it really is just entertainment - like the block et al - enjoy the ride and the savings from the comfort of your own lounge room but don't expect to replicate it in real life. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Selling Houses Australia renovation costs 3Oct 31, 2013 8:49 am Havent see SHA, but the Block taught us that it is all rigged and unrealistic. The only program I have seen that realisitically shows renovation costs, is the program from the UK, that tells it how it is. And a lot of people sail too close to the wind because they do not know what they are doing. Even the experienced renovators still stuff up. Re: Selling Houses Australia renovation costs 4Oct 31, 2013 9:43 am I dont think they are trying to suggest that if you were to do it yourself it would cost the same amount of money.... It is the participation in the show that gets them the access to the discounted products, masses of manpower and lots of freebies and unrealistic budgets. I think it's just illustrating what areas to watch for, how to present to sell and provides a bit of entertainment/property education in the process.
