You see, we get all excited about the thought of the new reno job and how pleased the missus will be. And if we do a really beaut job then she will be REALLY pleased, if you know what I mean. So anyway where was I, yeah its all new, and so we get stuck in and after about an hour we have ripped out half the kitchen and its time for a cuppa. Finish the cuppa and get back to it. The second day finds us at the hardware store and we've got the u-beaut pieces of materials and start installing it, but its starting to get boring now and its hard work - and the footy is on, so maybe we can finish it next weekend. We'll get it finished next weekend for sure! Re: DIY disasters 11May 14, 2008 1:24 pm the house we own/occ was done 'renovated' by a 'diy' who we think had a slight mental illness combined with a lack of any skill. We have gutted the whole house and started again most of the stuff he did was horrible not to mention illegal for the most part (wires terminated in the wall behind plasterboard (in the shower!!!) with elecy tape and a plastic bag. Random walls removed, parts of trusses cut for sky light with no new reo, open unterminated gas pipes! ... really crazy ****.
That said we are DIY (well i am the other half is more a i wish it was done already) but i know my limits and also my legal limits. I do things like kitchens, tiles, painting, heating ducts, etc... and co-ordinate directly with trades rather than a builder managing the job. That said if i had the money i wouldnt do it ... Our house needs to go on the market soon, new one hopefully ready to move into in a few months. Gutters need painting, exterior paintwork touched up, some interior paintwork..... He was going to paint the gutters last week on his day off, I came home from work at 3:30, he is on the computer "just about to start" WTF????? It gets dark at 5:00!!!! A week later one side of the house has painted gutters, still 3 sides to go and no other painting started : - computer had a virus and some-one wanted him to look at their computer and son needed a lift to somewhere and local footy match was on and has to watch sons play and got called in to extra shift at work and needs a new paint brush and............... Chemtrails, only the most disproven conspiracy theory in the history of conspiracy theories. You've gone in the deep end, drowned, and are now a mindless bloated… 5 86539 Assuming the structure of your cabinetry is good then I would DIY everything as follows: - replace your counter tops entirely, - replace all drawer runners with soft close… 1 4774 |
