Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 21, 2013 9:23 pm Hi everyone, I am currently having my first single storey home built and it is nearly completion with final inspection this coming Friday. Last week I went to the site to have a look and found out that the tiling done on my laundry room and hallway seems strange. From the entrance hallway all the way to the living room uses 450x450 tiles, next to the hallway is a laundry room which uses a different non-slippery type 450x450 tiles. I would have thought they should made it aligned. I couldn't think of a reason why they couldn't do it before. However, when I pointed out this one to my site supervisor, he mentioned that it is a different tile, different room and it is more on "aesthetic" look issue. I am getting an independent inspector this Friday as well. I will mention it to him but I don't think there is much can be done now. I would like to ask whether anyone encounter a similar situation that I am having right now and whether I should have a go with the builder. Pictures to show what I meant Note to self for future reference and something I like to share: Please make sure to inform the builder that we wants all tiles' lines aligned if possible. Any feedback or opinion are welcomed. Thank you in advance ! Re: Question on Tiling's lines not aligned 2Oct 21, 2013 10:11 pm Honestly? It doesn't look right. I don't think the considered matching up and I think your SS is blowing sunshine up your skirt. That being said, if it can't be fixed, at least it's not drastic and you'll probably be the only one who notices. Pity, because you're the one paying for it. 19.03.14 - Land Settlement 15.04.14 - Building Permit 28.04.14 - Earthworks 14.05.14 - Slab Stage 20.05.14 - Frame Stage 11.06.14 - Lock Up Stage 03.07.14 - Fix Stage 15.08.14 - New Home Presentation Re: Question on Tiling's lines not aligned 3Oct 21, 2013 10:14 pm My bet is that they tiled the laundry floor first, then started the entrance hallway at say the front door. I'll bet there was a a bit of panic when they reached the laundry and realised they should have started there. It looks awful, and any decent builder should realise it was his muc up and fix it. Only way to fix it is to redo the laundry (if this is the smallest room) Re: Question on Tiling's lines not aligned 4Oct 21, 2013 11:00 pm That sucks. Would annoy me immensely. I would let them rip it out and do it again... Re: Question on Tiling's lines not aligned 6Oct 22, 2013 7:30 pm I looks so unprofessional. Basicly they stuffed up. But I have no idea if there is a way to force them to fix it. Maybe a there is something thats falls under within the building code? Need an expert to comment on this. Re: Question on Tiling's lines not aligned 8Oct 26, 2013 6:02 am Hi everyone, Done my PCI yesterday and I saw spare tiles on laundry room when I first stepped into the laundry room. The builder is going to re-tile all the bathroom tiles yay. Restored my faith in builder Re: Question on Tiling's lines not aligned 9Oct 26, 2013 6:06 am Good to hear - It could have only gone that way, surely! 19.03.14 - Land Settlement 15.04.14 - Building Permit 28.04.14 - Earthworks 14.05.14 - Slab Stage 20.05.14 - Frame Stage 11.06.14 - Lock Up Stage 03.07.14 - Fix Stage 15.08.14 - New Home Presentation Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering.
