Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 20, 2013 6:45 pm Hello fellow H1'ers... Our next focus is our driveway. We need to rip up the existing old, cracked and ugly concrete driveway and get something new. All along I was going to get a (dark) coloured concrete, but am starting to be swayed towards exposed aggregate. We don't have a garage yet - but it is on the big plan and it would be erected at the side of our house - on top of part of the driveway. My dilemma is - that if we get exposed ag, and then in a year or so build a garage, then the garage will be built over exposed ag, and I am just not sure I am happy with this as the flooring option for inside the garage (where we will spend a bit of time tinkering, working, and a place for storage etc). But of course, I can't do exposed ag. to a certain point and then plain concrete in anticipation of a garage that may not necessarily happen?? I guess I am interested to hear if anyone or many people have exposed ag. inside their garage and what it is like for a garage flooring option? And also wondering if there is anything you can pour over exposed ag. to "fill it in" a bit and smooth it out to make it kinder under foot. Any thoughts or experiences. Cheers, HHCIB Re: Exposed Aggregate in garage? 2Oct 21, 2013 9:03 am You can grind down the exposed agg later on if you so wish. I was looking at doing this as part of my entertaining area is this finish and I'm not a big fan with young kids always falling over. Just expect it to cost a bit $80+/sqm as they use a lot of diamond tools to grind it down. Re: Exposed Aggregate in garage? 3Oct 21, 2013 5:40 pm Thanks Miteq. Helpful to know. Will enquire about the option of grinding it down when we start speaking to concretors. I don't really want to have to spend more on an already expensive surface (esp. at $80/sq m) - but at least it is an option to keep in mind. I was hoping there might be some kind of gloss type finish or 'filler' (??) to pour over the top (of the garage floor, if we build a garage) just to help level it or smooth it off?? Re: Exposed Aggregate in garage? 4Oct 21, 2013 5:45 pm Oh, the other thing I was wondering, down the track we will need a new front fence/gate - and was wondering if we went for a sliding gate (probably wouldn't be able to afford electronic??), can you 'retro fit' any sliding rails that might be required across the driveway. As in, not just sit them on top (unless that is acceptable) but cut into the concrete driveway to fit them? It is probably ideal to get it sorted/done at the same time, but don't think we can afford to get them done at the same time. Re: Exposed Aggregate in garage? 5Oct 23, 2013 6:01 am You can get sliding gates that the guide mounts on top of the concrete. Re: Exposed Aggregate in garage? 7Nov 11, 2013 4:19 pm I just got a quote - $100sqm (if over 30sqm). That is for South East/Bayside Melbourne area. HHCIB Re: Exposed Aggregate in garage? 8Nov 11, 2013 4:42 pm Thanks for that, reckon our would be around 35-40 sqm. Last year I had a gas leak at my house. 3 days later, I have about 1 sqm of my exposed aggregate paving broken up. I am not sure how to go about getting it repaired… 0 10403 After some ideas on making our patio kid friendly . Currently we have exposed aggregate. The patio faces west and is always in sun even though it has a shade directly… 0 3518 |
