Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 17, 2013 10:42 am Hi all, Our double-storey house is lacking storage space so we would like to investigate opening up the area underneath the staircase. Any ideas where I start? Is this a straightforward task (i.e. knock down a wall and add a door)? Any advice would be appreciated (I'm clearly a novice with this!!) Re: Opening up under stairs for storage. Advice please. 2Oct 17, 2013 6:20 pm We have been in our place a year now and finally last week had a carpenter put a door in for us. He literally cut a hole in the wall and installed a door which gave us access to the space. Excellent move $350 all up. Amazing how much space is there, money well spent for us at least. You will need to replace the entire stairs. Carpenter is the trade you're after. 1 4334 Got my stairs designed like this with 250mm Gap marked below.
