Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 14, 2013 8:03 pm Hi, I am putting up a fence and plan to use steel posts (50x50) concreted in and screwing corrugated iron sheeting directly to the posts. As I have 8 meters of fencing to do before the gateway opening I was wondering if anyone knows how many steel posts should I have in this 8 meter section? I am told as I am not using rails and connecting the corrugated iron directly to the posts that I should have a post in every 1.2 meters? Can someone who has had experience or knows a bit about fences assist me here please? Also is it wise to also get my corrugated iron in the 8 meter lengths rather than attaching separate smaller pieces? Cheers, Re: How far should steel fence posts be apart? 2Oct 15, 2013 11:30 pm Hi athomasd I have just got out of fencing after 12yrs,all though i have not built a fence with the sheets running parallel to the ground i would suggest * Definitely use 8m sheets if you can so you don't have to deal with the overlapping of the sheets manually as well as cosmetically * Personally I'd use 65 x 65 x 2.1 thick Gal posts as 1.6mm thick posts have to much flex & no less than 600mm deep post holes & open the bottom of the post hole with a crow bar so it is bigger than the top of the post hole & it will not be going anywhere in a hurry. *As you didn't mention how high it will be & as i have never built one like this,I'd keep the post spacing around 1.2 wide for 1.8 high & 1.5 for 1.5 high fence, for a rail fence i always spaced it at 2.1.Always keep it symmetrical no matter if it's 8m or 80m Eg: If you use 6 x 50x50mm posts for your 8m 6 x 50 = 300mm 8m - 300mm = 7.7 7.7 divided by 6 = 1290mm centres for your posts. Hi I am wanting some opinions about the build of a steel shed I am going to get one about 4.5 x 2.5 m steel shed and the height will be about 2.3-2.4m high The one I am… 0 14458 if l cannot get a sandblaster would a sander with sandpaper be better then a wire brush 4 7349 You’re on the right track, wire brush in a grinder then a zinc rich epoxy primer then a top coat of some sort, like a waterproofing membrane.
