I'm thinking of going shadow lines.
Has anyone done this have photos they are willing to share.
With the current trend of higher ceilings I wonder why more people don't do it?

Hahaha. I think it looks unfinished or like a cheap office partition ceiling but I'm sure I'm in the minority as they seem quite trendy. Very trendy. But I guess worse comes to worse and we hate it, we spend a couple of grand and get traditional cornices installed <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: Shadow lines vs Traditional Cornices? 6Oct 13, 2013 8:59 pm We are seeing more of it is this part of the world but also coupled with shadow line architraves and skirting. It can look a bit industrial at times but can look quite sleek if done properly and fits in with the right style of house. Stewie Re: Shadow lines vs Traditional Cornices? 7Oct 13, 2013 9:14 pm Thanks Stewie that explains a bit. As the existing house has a lot of feature brick, with the wood sitting directly on the brick I've realised how much I like the clean lines. I understand that cornices are also practical because they hide a multitude of sins. I guess I'm either thinking shadow line or square set. I understand square set can crack a lot more but as the slab has been down for a year and the bricks for close to 10 months I don't imagine that would be a drama..... <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: Shadow lines vs Traditional Cornices? 8Oct 14, 2013 7:43 am I think it depends on the style of house you are building. In my house, which is contemporary, I dont think it would have fit. My boss has just built his house and he does not have cornices and I think it works for his style of house. I think with cornices it would have looked out of place. We have a modern contemporary design house so it suited the design. It really depends on your house design and your preferences. Funny when we were showing my Dad around he thought we did it to save money on cornices! I told him we paid extra NOT to have them. LOL! Anyway ours is two storey and the display had square set cornices, BUT only downstairs and had standard cornices upstairs which was a little odd. Here are some photos of the entry and passage. As you can see, with the raised ceiling in entry and bulkheads also in the passage, cornices would have looked out of place. Definitely prefer square set to shadow. Looks lovely. If money permitted I'd have square set windows too. I was the one that wanted square set cornices so that's all I'm claiming credit for! traditional gable roof facade - Have you did the dark and light gray color combination in facade with gray stone in facade… 0 4211 |
