Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Alarm recommendations in Melbourne 2May 07, 2008 7:51 pm We got an ADT installed and monitored alarm system when we built, and I would NOT do it again.
I believe the system is expensive (certainly when they quoted me about $1000 to ugrade to PIRs that it turned out I already had), the monitoring is almost a complete waste of money - that you are contracted to pay for 3 years, and then you have to pay to 'decommission' the alarm system if you want to stop paying for the monitoring... Re: Alarm recommendations in Melbourne 3May 07, 2008 8:05 pm We had http://www.mainline.com.au install a house alarm many years ago. Best money we ever spent as it's saved the place from being robbed a couple of times. I couldn't imagine living in a place without an alarm system. Re: Alarm recommendations in Melbourne 4May 07, 2008 8:36 pm I guess it depends on what you want it to do. Most alarms these days allow for the installation of a sim card to SMS your mobile of arm/disarm activity and activation.
The one we had installed is connected to our phone line and rings my mobile if activated or fault. I can also arm/disarm remotely, open my garage door and activate sprinklers, air con etc from my mobile. I don’t use 90percent of its functionality, why I got it installed was the front door station is also connected to the system and I can even talk to visitors from my mobile, but no that’s still not the reason, what we do use is when the door station button is pressed it rings our house phones with a different ring, so no ding dongs required in the house, and when we’re out the back or in the HT I take the cordless handset with me, so when it lights up I take a quick view of the monitor in the HT room to see who’s at the front door. If they look like they’re after money we get very quiet…just kidding. Anyway, there are dozens of different brands on the market; most are pretty reliable these days. Check out display homes and look at what brands they’re using, check out the sensors if they appeal to you and also check out the keypads. You can always ring the manufacturer/distributor for reputable installers. Some of the PIR’s now come with attachable night lights, and some even have built in micro cameras so not only can you converse with the burglar remotely you can check them out as well. I'll be getting an alarm installed by a chap I used a few years ago and was happy with alarm and his professionalism then. If he does a good job I'll PM details. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Alarm recommendations in Melbourne 6May 07, 2008 10:24 pm kiwi056 I guess it depends on what you want it to do.
