Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 27, 2013 10:55 pm Hi went window furnishing shopping today. We are looking at getting shutters put in our new home, and we were told be a large company that basswood shutters will not be available past 2014. They said it might be risky to go with this option as if the shutter broke or you needed a new part, you may not be able to get them past this date. That i would be better off going with a hardwood or PVC option? I am not sure whether this could be true as they are quite popular, and basswood are made into Venetians and other furnishing products. I am not sure whether this is true???? or whether i am being taken for a ride???? So a little confused any thoughts out there! Re: Will Timber Basswood shutters be available past 2014 2Sep 28, 2013 4:59 pm When I was in the picture framing industry there were periods when a supplier would claim that a particular type of timber would "run out" or not be available after 6months etc. Some claims proved to be false others did actually disappear but another suitable product quickly come in before it affected anything. If you are just getting shutters with a clear varnish it may be an issue. If you're getting them painted or even stained I don't think you'll have any problems. A final note.... don't be put off by the PVC ones if your getting a white finish. We had white basswood ones installed in all our house except the kitchen which was PVC. It looked just as good as the others and if like us you happen to keep the windows open often, when rain drops on the PVC one it's fine, the basswood ones can swell. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Will Timber Basswood shutters be available past 2014 3Sep 28, 2013 8:46 pm Thanks robbie, your input is most valuable Hello everyone Please advice me how can I install mesh security window or we cab say mesh flyscreen inside while the pvc plantation shutters are already installed?
