Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 29, 2013 11:57 pm Hi all. Just trying to decide what type of window style others have gone for in their master bedroom. Ours is facing the street so I thought one of those long thin horizontal windows placed fairly high would be good. Also good as people can't look in from the street. Im thinking that if you were ever in bed in daylight hours with the curtains open then people could see in. Wondering if anyone finds it an issue or has anyone gone for those smaller windows? Re: Bedroom windows 2Aug 30, 2013 11:16 am I've got 3 tall, thin vertical windows in my bedroom (which seems to be fairly common these days if my neighbours' homes are anything to go by). With respect to privacy; I had all of my front windows tinted (cost around $350 for 6 windows) so during the day you can't see in from the street even if I have my blinds open. Of course at night with the lights on inside people can see in but that's what curtains/blinds are for! If you are at the pre-building stage you could even order windows with tint already in them (as opposed to the film which I had applied after handover). I wouldn't go for smaller windows simply for privacy reasons. When considering which windows to get I think things like the amount of light given, flow of air (especially cross-ventilation) and even the look of your facade are more important. Re: Bedroom windows 4Aug 30, 2013 1:23 pm I prefer to have the long skinny ones. In our last place he had plantation shutters, you open the top set of louvres for light and to see the trees/sky etc and adjust the bottom so it was private but still let in plenty of light. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Bedroom windows 5Aug 30, 2013 9:06 pm In our current house our bedroom windows are two tall narrow windows that face the street. We have our windows tinted so you can't see in during the day. Blinds are closed at night so that isn't an issue. I'm thinking our master is nowhere near the air conditioner so I may really need to consider that. Thanks for the replies. I actually think I may go a bigger, openable window with either a tint or a double blind. Re: Bedroom windows 7Sep 04, 2013 8:35 pm Double roller blinds are the way to go. There are quite a few factory direct places online. This makes double roller blinds about the same price as single roller blinds if you bought through a bricks and mortar shop. I think blinds warehouse and iseekblind.com.au offer double roller blinds. We recently used http://www.blindsemporium.com.au and couldnt be happier...they came with a 5 year warranty. Good luck. Re: Bedroom windows 10Sep 14, 2013 10:21 am I know they are not the 'in thing' but I really think you cant go past netting curtains - window can be big and let lots of light/air/ventilation in and you can see out and people outside cant see in. We have large bay window ( yes, I know, they are not 'in thing' either ) and bedroom is at front of house, no issues at all with people seeing in. Of course, we put the shutters down at night. You try to build your own house with what you want. I think the bay window is lovely. That reminds me I did have netting on a window many years ago and I remember enjoying the breeze with the window open while I still had privacy. Re: Bedroom windows 12Sep 19, 2013 10:56 pm I have two floor to ceiling one metre wide awning style windows in my master bedroom which faces the street. Originally I just had wooden wide slat venetians on, however, we have a street light right outside our bedroom, so I ordered some custom curtains from Kresta. I have cornice to floor sheer curtains the whole length of the wall and then blockout curtains in a neutral tone. I open the blockout curtains in the morning, the venetians now permanently remain open and we have privacy but lovely light coming through. When we had the windows opened last weekend, a beautiful breeze came through didn't think I would like that style of window at first but now love the breeze I get through the bottom without blowing the curtains everywhere.
