Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 29, 2013 12:23 pm Backyard renovation: have seen a photo of FLOATING STEPS & they will be perfect if only I could find out how to make them!! The plans is for 1200 x 1200m steps with a 160mm step down to each level & strip lights to be recessed under each step so that the floating is accentuated at night. Plan is to build out them of concrete, but this is flexible. Any ideas of how to form them?? Thanks. Lee Re: FLOATING STEPS IN GARDEN 2Aug 30, 2013 10:28 am Post up a photo of what you had in mind - it just makes it easier for us to visualise. I'd imagine they are just overhung by 75-10mm all round and the shadow that is created by the overhang being dark would make the steps look like they are floating. Easy enough to form up The base would be a square 100mm ( or whatever distance in you wanted to make it ) smaller than the top all round so 1000mm x 1000mm. The top would be 1200 x 1200mm Both should be 80mm high to give you the 160mm high or depending on your lights you could make the top say 100 and the base only 60mm. Something like this... A bit of reo in there wouldn't hurt either. Stewie Re: FLOATING STEPS IN GARDEN 3Sep 08, 2013 6:59 pm Thanks Stewie! That makes perfect sense! I'll try to find the picture I first saw & post it, but I'm pretty sure you are spot on with your advice. I assume that only one step is done at a time then the next when the first is dry? Re: FLOATING STEPS IN GARDEN 4Sep 08, 2013 9:33 pm You could pour then one at a time and reuse the formwork for each but that means 5-6-7 pours depending on how many steps. If you decide to pour the whole lot in one go of course it means you will have to make all the formwork to suit. Just weigh up which method is the most hassle and choose the other. But I'm not sure… 3 4588 Thanks, that's the motivation I needed to give it a try sooner rather than one day! 4 2060 |
