Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 19, 2013 2:14 pm Hi, I'm new to this forum and I didn't even know you were here... So glad I have found you! I have been building my home for a few years now and is a slow work in progress due to a few restrictions (mainly budget). Anyway I hope someone can help me with recommended grout colours. I have bought a Scandia wood heater/cooker and my hearth is about 1.2 x 1.1 m. I have bought 300 x 300mm red tiles for base (on sealed 15mm compressed fibro) with 22mm aluminium trim. For the walls I have 100 x 200mm black subway tiles that will go about 300mm above height of heater (heater is in a corner near dining room). I have also bought 100 x 300mm red glass tiles as feature row near top of wall tiles (not sure yet about them, but colour matches perfect). I have laid the red floor tiles with 5mm spacers and am about to tile the walls... This is where I stumble.... I'm not sure what size spacers to use for black subway tiles and was going to use white grout so they "pop".... So, I'm debating about black grout on base, but worry that white would look better (even if harder to keep clean?) NB. My kitchen backsplash will be 100 x 200 red subway tiles with white grout. If anyone can help advise me, many thanks in advance. Cheers, Kimmy PS. I have a pic, but I don't know how to add it? ~My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my dog already thinks I am~ Re: Help - Question on grout colour for hearth? 2Aug 19, 2013 10:18 pm Hi and welcome. Sounds like a photo is needed! To post photos you need to upload them to an external photo site, like photobucket or imageshack, then you can get the codes to add those pics to forums. After that it's just a matter of copy and paste into your text. To check if it works click on preview. Re: Help - Question on grout colour for hearth? 3Aug 20, 2013 9:31 am Hi, I've searched a few US forums and they say 1/16th to 1/8th inch for grout spacings for subway tiles... Does it get harder to tile with smaller spacings? This is where I'm up to. We still have to finish to corner plastering on left and frame the doorway on right also. http://sdrv.ms/1eYcywz It took me a while to find these tiles, don't think we'll have heat before the end of winter, but at least I got the tiles I wanted Thanks ~My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my dog already thinks I am~ Re: Help - Question on grout colour for hearth? 4Aug 22, 2013 1:18 am Hi, If anyone has any thoughts on grout colour for my hearth I'd love to get some opinions.
