So for the first time since we have moved into our house (8 years ago) the verandah boards at the front entrance of our Victorian house have swollen and created big waves. One to the side of the front door is quite large (raised 8-9cms) while the one directly in front of the door is smaller (raised about 4-5cm)- creating quite the trip trap.
Assuming this has happened this year as it has been so wet in Melb compared to previous years of drought.
I've googled it and some websites say to leave them and they will settle back down (hard to see how) although I am concerned that this will happen next year as well - unless I try to screw them down. And doesn't really help the situation now. Replace the boards with boards that are sealed on all sides, or replace them with tiles as I'm assuming they wont swell if we have a normal wet winter. My only concern is that we will probably renovate the house in a couple of years and don't want the tiling to get broken as i would do a tessellated tile which will be $$.
Looking for words of wisdom! Also who would fix this- a builder or carpenter?
Thanks!
