Hi! This is my first post so pardon my inorance on anything and everything related to renovating!
I am renovating my mum's loft-style/californian bungalow apartment. I love this apartment to bits, but as you will see from the picture I'm trying to upload, there is an awkward and ugly picture rail running along the middle of the beautiful double-height wall. It separates the bottom of the wall (concrete render over brick) and the top of the wall (gyprock sheets). It runs into the cornicing of the kitchen/dining space and is completely incongruent and ruins the effect of the high ceilings! I am trying to figure out what the bvest option is in getting rid of it - the painter said if he plasters over the join between the render and gyprock, any paint will highlight the difference in wall texture.
So far, my ideas are:
1. Get rid of picture rail, use textured paint. Have looked at the Dulux suede paint but not sure if I can find a good colour that wnt be overbearing on double height walls.
2. Get rid of picture rail, but run cornicing along the gap around the whole wall and use the cornicing as a feature, with a shelf on top of the cornicing. Not sure if this would look awkward or tacky, or if it's do-able.
3. ??? Thoughts?! I can't find anyone with the same issue of gyprock and concrete walls anywhere on the internet!!
