Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 30, 2013 10:07 am Hi Guys, Ive recently had my colour appointment at Henley Homes but feeling a little sceptical on colours choosen! I really want a grey paint on all my internal walls, and definetly after something with substance! Ie I don't want a grey that looks white! I have decided on dulux silkwort, with white on white ceilings and trims! Would this be too dark? My partner is an electrician so lighting will be a huge feature throughout! And for my kitchen I have selected: Overhead cupboards: Bleached wenge silk finish Botom cupboards: Polar white silk finish Bench: Ocean foam ceasarstone Splashback: Mirror splashback Under bench: Bleached wenge. Im really wanting my kitchen space to be quiet clean and crisp! Any feedback would be awesome! Also planning lots of bright decorative artwork on the walls! Re: Interior Colours- Heeeeelllp!! 2Jul 30, 2013 10:40 am It all comes down to personal taste but Silkwort and bleached wenge, in a word -- YUK. I find grey a dingy, characterless and most depressing colour, probably better for the walls of a mortuary. You will need heaps of 'feature' lighting to brighten up your colour selection in an attempt to resemble a warm and welcoming home. Ocean foam I could live with. Arfur Re: Interior Colours- Heeeeelllp!! 3Jul 30, 2013 12:57 pm I love grey I was looking at silkwort but thought it would be too dark for the whole house, so went to Dieskau. Then the color chick suggested Bleaches Half (almost identical to Dieskau) so we went with that. If we want feature walls later on I'll probably use silkwort for that. My ceilings/trim are lexicon quarter coz I love the crisp look of grey walls with white trim. In the kitchen I used polar white for overheads and zincworks for base cabinets, zincworks is a bit more silvery grey. - MrsT Brought first house in 2008. Renovated...a LOT. Built in 2013. Our thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67954 Re: Interior Colours- Heeeeelllp!! 4Jul 30, 2013 1:59 pm Wow if you don't like grey perhaps better no responding since she stated she really wanted grey I LOVE silkwort. Im using silkwort 1/4 for our new house as I wanted keep the house quite light specially as we are doing a darkish floor. Ill be using 1/2 strength in master, theatre & photo wall feature though. Silkwort 1/4 is pretty much same as Bleaches 1/2 but just the tiny tad more grey. You could barely pick difference though (I painted them next to each other) My daughters current room has silkwort feature wall and that's how I decided it was prob too dark for entire house Re: Interior Colours- Heeeeelllp!! 5Jul 30, 2013 2:00 pm Not having been through the process of building a new house, I am unfamiliar with many of the colours and finishes often mentioned, so I can't comment on the combination you have mentioned. I agree with Uncle Arfur that it comes down to personal choice. But I disagree with him that grey is character-less and depressing. I would be wary of doing my entire house in it - especially if on the darker side. I had (still have) possible plans of painting our front living area a darkish grey - and then lifting it up with either pops of bold colour (yellows or pinks), and/or warming it up with some neutral light timber finishes (coffee tables, lamp base etc) - or possibly even keeping the room dark/moody-ish with silver based accents. So basically, I think it can be easy to lift/warm up greys without having to go overboard on feature lighting. In our ensuite bathroom (which is next on our list), I am considering light concrete grey coloured floor tiles (perhaps a feature wall of the same), crisp white for the other walls, and warm it up/soften it up a bit by having the vanity in a nice warm timber finish. (Still playing around with this combination, but this is what I had in mind). Anyway, all of this useless information probably of no help to your dilemma, but thought I'd throw my 2c in - something might resonate. Good luck with your final choices. HHCIB Re: Interior Colours- Heeeeelllp!! 6Jul 30, 2013 2:04 pm What colour is your furniture? What floors are doing? I agree, I think that makes big difference to how grey looks as well. Wooden futniture can make grey look warm & inviting. Gloss white or black furniture more modern and How hard can it be - Your ideas sound lovely. I love grey with the light wood in bathrooms <3 Re: Interior Colours- Heeeeelllp!! 7Jul 30, 2013 2:29 pm MrsT12 I love grey I was looking at silkwort but thought it would be too dark for the whole house, so went to Dieskau. Your kitchen sounds very similar to mine, just swap around the white overheads for grey in my case! How are you finding your kitchen? Obviously my style is never going to be every ones cup of tea! But I wanted it to look fresh with a dark wall! Would love to see a photos of your kitchen! Haha. I have been searching the net for days on paint choices and I saw the photo of your daughters feature wall! It looks amazing! That photo actually proved to me that I love the depth of colour in the paint! So I went and bought a sample pot! I am loving it! I have a few ideas on stunning artwork that is aqua, and another that has lots of brights which I think is bound to lift the room and make it feel warm! This is actually my first home, so I don't have furniture yet! But plan on lots of timber! And im loving hues of blue or aqua to decorate! Can I ask your opinion! Would you choose bleached wenge or chalky teak for overhead cupboards? I don't agree with his comment at all either! Like I said above, I have plans for lots of bright artwork and lots of colourful decorative items and timber furniture to keep it feelings warm and inviting! It will be anything but boring and depressing if I do it right! I really love a on the dark side grey, with good depth of colour! Im fortunate that my living areas are going to get lots of sunlight in the afternoons to keep my house looking light!
