Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 25, 2013 9:01 am Hi, I am a bit stuck on if my bathroom design is going to work. My first question is, I had existing wall framing in the bathroom area (treated 90 x45 pine). It goes from the ceiling frame down to an existing slab. I have to raise the floor by 180mm, so I am putting in a subfloor. My question is, I have placed the bearers hard against the existing wall studs, so this means the wall stud are not sitting on top of the bearers. DOES THIS MATTER? When I sheet the walls, will this joint be an issue. Secondly, one of the bathrooms is an external red brick wall (single skin). It does not have direct exposure to rain as it is under an eve. Can I just pack this out with furring channel (8mm) and then should I use blue board or aquachek? Can I use blueboard and Aquachek togther. Blueboard one wall and Aquachek adjacent wall. Does the jointing compound work. Any help would be great, I don't want to get this wrong. Thanks in advance. Re: Bathroom Subfloor, Claading advise 2Jul 25, 2013 9:51 pm Yes, you can just use furring chanel, wouldnt hurt to paint the wall first as some sort of moisture protection, but if it is fairly prtected you might get away with it. Use Villa board all round. Why do you want to use Aquachek? and Blue board isnt an internal product. I am pretty sure they wont guarantee the typical compound on the Blueboard. Re: Bathroom Subfloor, Claading advise 3Jul 25, 2013 9:53 pm Oh, and the floor doesnt matter, though it would pay to place some noggins at the height of the floor to nail the bottom of the wall sheets to. If the sheets flex a bit around the bottom, excessive movement could tear the waterproofing seal Andrew Re: Bathroom Subfloor, Claading advise 4Jul 31, 2013 1:24 pm Hi Marc, Firstly – No it doesn’t matter if the wall studs are not sitting on top of the bearers. Secondly – Eve’s don’t protect you from rain always! (refer to BCA) Also - If your external wall is only single skin then I’d suggest it may not be structural. Is there a timber frame (stud wall) infront of the bricks? I’m always of the opinion – if in doubt – frame up in front of it, and fix the lining to the frame. As 33amc said – blueboard is an external product. .. and yep - using villa board in wet areas, with a waterproof membrane over the top is the way to go. Hope that helps Patrick Boucher Edited by Forum Support Jimbo73 I would use heaps of adhesive on each sheet and screw rather than nail. use as many as you like cheers Simeon 1 4046 XCEM Alpha flooring seems to relatively new and I could not found any reviews. Have you or someone you know have used it and would recommend over other subfloor options?… 2 7578 Would also like an opinion from anyone that has used xcem over hebel for floors. Thanks 1 13276 |
