Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 23, 2013 5:11 pm Hi all I have been quite annoyed by a strange running water noise in house for a while. I can always hear a running water noise inside a wall (external) in my living room, recently I successfully figure it out it's related to the hotwater system because if I turned off the house water supply, the noise stops. However if I turned it on and only switch off the cold water tag for my gas hotwater system, the noise disappeared too. And certainly it will come back once I turn on the hotwater's cold water. I also have to mention that I don't get a huge water bill, so it seems there's no leakage. So my question is why my 10y+ old gas hot water system possibly causes water running while it's not being used at all? Is this normal? The noise is reasonably loud but not huge. Thanks for any input! Re: Running water noise related to hotwater system 2Jul 24, 2013 9:05 am Firstly don't get fixed on thinking you know what it is. I'm not saying you are wrong, but sometimes you think you have figured out exactly what the problem is and can't see anything else because of it. Sounds like you isolated the issue, but you never know it might have been a coincidence that it stopped the noise when you shut the water off. From your description of it being the water heater, I'm wondering if it's either the pressure value leaking and its draining off into a overflow pipe, or maybe you are just hearing the water in the tank heating? Is the water heater on that same wall that you hear the noise? I'm guessing you've checked for something as simple as a leaking tap? a small drip into a drain can make a lot of noise in pvc pipes. Ive also seen toilets with flappers that aren't sealing and the toilet constantly leaks, this then causes a steady trickle into the drain that can be heard in the walls. Thanks for the reply, very appreciated. The hotwater tank is quite far from the spot where I can hear the noise, more than 7 meters away. And it's definitely not from its safety valve because it's hanging off the tank and connects to nowhere but over a on-ground draining hole. When I turn off all the water taps in house, the water supply meter is not spinning at all while I can still hear the noise - even after several hours the meter doesn't move at all either. Which is very strange ! Re: Running water noise related to hotwater system 4Jul 25, 2013 9:02 am howsecurity hi, Perhaps this is the reason of the problem I think that the problem is caused by the strength of the water flow inside the tubes can be controlled in this and Dalk reducing the power of the water flow re-entry to the central water boycotted the home and reduce the flow of water Thanks for the reply. So you reckon there's a leak in the piple of hotwater system? Incoming or outgoing though? Cheers.
