My Virtual Home - Help with door ...ALL FIXED thanx Rachelle

I've currently drawing up the house we just bought on MVH, I've downloaded the pdf manuals read them a couple of times, but I have a query which I can't address by RTFM-ing.

I'm drawing up the back end of the house and the kitchen which has a large walk in pantry (plastered walls rather than the cabinetry type). After some difficulty gettng the floorplan to create the chamfered wall of the pantry I managed to create the right shape (the top part of the plan below).....

I'm having all sorts of problems getting MVH to put a door to the pantry in the chamfered wall (with the yellow dot) that actually creates an opening.

If I put a door on the wall and rotate it it to the correct angle it just overlaps the wall rather than creating a cavity.

Any tips on what I'm doing wrong or directions to applicable web sites that may help....before I ......Thanks

i couldnt even get two walls to go together how I wanted with that bl**dy program.....made me fell like a complete nuffie! :evil:

Felt like that for a couple of days....then I kind of got it going and then hit this problem.....argh!

i spent endless hours on MVH and then finally gave up for the same reason ... couldn't work out how to add a door underneath the staircase.

have fun :shock:

Wise man....that's what I started doing and thought I would be clever (how unlike me ! ! ! ! )....the graph paper and pencil beckons....

P.S. I think you'd build it by the time I MVHed it....!

I use an exel spreadsheet to compute all the sizes.
There are reference numbers on the spreadsheet that refer to the grid paper plan.
Been doing it like this for the last 10 years or so

Hi,

If the door won't snap on then perhaps the wall isn't big enough to fit the door you are trying to place.

If you think it is big enough try holding down Ctrl while you place the door.

If it doesn't snap with that then I think you have selected a door that is too large. It won't put a door right to the edges, it needs room around it.

If you find MVH too difficult, but still want a free computer program to do your models, try Google Sketchup

I found this a lot easier to learn and use than MVH

Cheers I've got to change the color as they are actually stained and for now only doing the back of the house to show DW a planned future extension to the wing off the kitchen.

May be planning ahead too far....still got a few more weeks until we are officially in....

Thanks....the last page of https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... highlight= basically shows where we have gotten to in ideas with a lot of useful input from forum-ites.

The design of the house also makes it ideal for an upstairs extension, already have the stairs and a loft study which could be incorporated into a kids area.......5+ year plan.

Hopefully with MVH I'll be able to get a bit closer to what it might look like.

Whatever the extension it's gotta keep in character with the rest of the place....

Pretty well....I've added the extra room just mucking about with dividing doors...will be posting soon to get some suggestions.

Going to the house at 2 pm for an inspection...getting the keys on Thursday...should be able to fill in more of the gaps.
