Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 14, 2013 10:04 pm I have found a sheet of fibro under my house (1 m x 30 cm) which I suspect is asbestos. What is the best legal way of getting rid of this (I don't want to have to pay a huge amount of money to have a specialist collect it but at the same time believe that it is illegal to just chuck it in the bin) Re: Getting rid of sheet of asbestos?? 2Jul 14, 2013 10:14 pm If you double wrap it (using 2 heavy duty plastic bags each taped with duct tape) some local tips will accept small quantities of asbestos from private individuals. From their website: Asbestos, wrapped 20kg parcels, under 100kg, MUST be hand-unloaded $60. Hope this helps. Re: Getting rid of sheet of asbestos?? 4Jul 17, 2013 11:03 am I saw a home renovation show recently (think it was house calls to the rescue? It was late at night and I'm a bit of an insomniac lol) where they had to remove a bit of fibro that had been used (of all things) as garden bed edging. The guy suited up (breathing mask, eye protection, gloves, full body suit), wet the sheets down with a hose (apparently to minimise dust) and then removed the stuff, wrapping it securely in thick black garbage bags which he sealed with duct tape. On the tape he wrote "caution, asbestos" or something to that extent. As others have said, I believe the wrapped parcels can then be taken to your local council tip provided that they take such things.
