Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 14, 2013 3:57 pm Hi All,
This is my first post so not sure it is in the correct spot. I am in the process of looking for a new colourbond roof for my currently tiled roof. The house has dark red bricks...the local paint shop suggests Monument for roof, facias and gutters. I like the colour but I was thinking white or cream facias....any advice welcome. I will try to post picture of current house situation. Re: ADVICE ON NEW ROOF FOR MY RED BRICK HOME 2Jul 14, 2013 7:43 pm Are you using all capital letters in your title in a bid to be noticed? Re: Advice on new colourbond roof for dark red bricked home 4Jul 14, 2013 7:57 pm Always nice to be chipped on things even after admitting you're new;) In any case, you asked for feedback. I have seen monument with some red brick and it looks great. The color of the roof depends on many things. I recently reroofed my place with Jasper and due to the low roof pitch it looks beige almost. If you can post a link to the brick selection or post a photo that would help a lot. You have other considerations as well. Darker roofs absorb more heat. As an aside. ... it's worth spending a little more and getting a thicker blanket. My builder used a thick knauff blanket and my home is quieter and warmer than I expected. Heres a picture if the jasper on my roof. It looks much darker as a colour sample. Can u in lighten me by what this is about? Cheers Rory Re: Advice on new colourbond roof for dark red bricked home 8Jul 17, 2013 11:02 pm Basiclly a tin roof has to have cyclone rods or strapping from the roof all the way to the bottom. A tile roof doesnt need this because tiles weigh 58kg per m2 and tin weighs 7 kg per m2. So because tiles weigh 8-9 times more than a tin roof, that effectively counts as resistance for a storm to blow the roof off. If you put tin on a roof and wall frame that has been designed for tiles, then it needs extra tie down to make up for the lesser weight holding it down. Where is your house located, and is is brick veneer?
