Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 24, 2006 9:34 am i had a building inspector (from Archicentre) to have a look at this property i was about to buy. he jumped up and down and said there was a bit of movement. so, he suggested that i may need to restump. i dont understand what a stump mean...but he said it is a very common problem for house this old (30 yrs old).
he said it costs around 7k to restump the whole house (4 bedrooms). now, i talked to the agent about it,...(hopefully can negotiate the price), but he said underneath is concrete (house this old is usually concrete...that's what he said). i dont know who to believe? how to tell difference between concrete or stump? is concrete better? if i 'restump',..shold i have it 'concrete'? also, do i need permit from council to 'restump'? please advise. thanks. Re: Need advice on re-stump 3Sep 24, 2006 12:58 pm i'm not too sure....the building inspector said he couldnt find a way to go under the house.... but the next day, the pest inspector told me there were mice and rats under the house! i asked how did he go under the house..he said there is a small entrance from the side....
so, is that mean it is timber stump? if it is timber stump, can i replace with concrete?
