Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 12, 2013 7:19 pm So we decided to get niches for our showers for both the ensuite and bathrooms in our house. All the tiling has just been completed. With the niche, we have noticed that the bottom tiles of the niche and a slight "slope". We originally thought the tilers stuffed up but realised that's its so that water could easily run out if it got in. We ended up putting shampoo bottles etc on it to test it out and some fell off as we did believe ours had too much of a slope. We decided to head out to the Porter Display homes to check it out - they had a slope but definitely not as much as a slope as our one. So I decided I was going to bring this up with our BS - his excuse for it is that it's not meant to be utilised for shampoo bottles and all that sort of stuff, it's actually a "feature niche". Anyone else think this is silly?! Their display homes display all these bottles etc. What should we do and what does everyone think? Anyone had similar issues? Re: Porter Davis shower "niche" actually a "feature"? 2Jun 12, 2013 7:48 pm What a moron, it's for putting shampoo in it. Make them fix it. Pretty sure I'm gonna fix them myself later on. They are too small and the tiling job is awful. Re: Porter Davis shower "niche" actually a "feature"? 7Jun 13, 2013 7:56 am Definitely not right! We have niches in our showers from PD and you can barely notice a slope. Definitely need a slight slope as it is bad for the water to build up there though. We had issues getting the niches in the 1st place they are never too keen on doing them due to possible maintenance issues down the track. Re: Porter Davis shower "niche" actually a "feature"? 8Jun 13, 2013 8:14 am How appropriate that you refer to him as the "BS". Don't sign or pay for completion of this stage until someone at PD commits to getting it fixed, and if this is his attitude I'd going over everything else with a fine tooth comb and standards documents. Re: Porter Davis shower "niche" actually a "feature"? 10Jun 13, 2013 1:34 pm Agape I would get them to fix it ASAP, I would also mention that the grout looks unfinished, and needs to be repaired. Thanks for all the input guys, I'm glad most of guys believe it's not right as well! Yeah I'm pretty sure that's where all the caulking is going to go I believe. One of PD representatives on here is now going to look into this for me after voicing my concern so fingers crossed! Re: Porter Davis shower "niche" actually a "feature"? 12Jun 13, 2013 3:27 pm personally, I think it's a good thing to have a little extra slope on a shower niche. Anything to avoid leaky showers! But maybe yours just have too much. I'd say if the bottles are falling off, it's probably too much of a slope. Not that it should be used for shampoo bottles at all, because we all know this is only a feature niche to be admired not USED. Still hang a caddy off your shower head for your bottles. Please watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWRxFWi- ... e=youtu.be Re: Porter Davis shower "niche" actually a "feature"? 15Jun 19, 2013 8:44 am Is the BS claiming that the fall on yours is supposed to be as steep as it is? If so, ask them the display's niche has been defected for insufficient fall and if not, why not? Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 12345 hmmm id assume youll get hit with the "natural product therefore variation in colour etc" excuse. How bad are we talking? One could argue that if none of the displays or… 3 2457 I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says. Thanks 2 9570 |
