Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 09, 2013 5:41 pm Is there anyone on Homeone with a Alfresco who built with Porter Davis ? have you had any issues with the ceiling? I built with Porter Davis 5 years ago. and included the Grand Alfresco on the house. I have had never ending issues with the Alfresco plaster ceiling cracking. Porter davis have been back 3 times to fix it and noticed again today the areas which they fixed on the ceiling are starting to open up again. Looks like their going to have to come back again for the fourth time. Obviously plaster isnt a great option for a ceiling. SO where do i go from here .line it with something else . ? what material is porter davis using for a ceiling? I have also noticed the ceiling in the garage is opening up. Re: alfresco plaster ceiling cracking 2Jun 09, 2013 6:17 pm Hi clath Haven't built with Porter Davis -we are owner builders. However, know exactly what you are talking about. Our previous owner built home, which we sold early last year had the same problem with the plaster alfresco ceiling. We had plasterers repair it a few times over the years, but the hairline cracks kept eventually reappearing. In our new current owner built home, we seemed to have solved this problem we have had no cracks appear. Our plasterer put about a 3-4mm expansion joint in this house's alfresco area ceiling - was his suggestion. Its been up up about a year now and all's fine. You should be able to ad an expansion joint to an existing ceiling. Expansion joints only needed in very large ceilings 12 meters plus Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: alfresco plaster ceiling cracking 5Jun 10, 2013 10:27 am In the last house we had all that. Paper tape, all backblocked and it still cracked. We even checked for movement and the amount was virtually none. 4 different plasterers could not solve the problem! Thank god for silicon and flat paint.!! The ceiling in the same area in the new house is larger. Only difference is the expansion joint. It only one end of the ceiling that cracks th e other end is fine. plaster isnt an ideal material for exterier use and wondering what PD use to line their Alfresco. maybe cedar might be a better option to use but i dont think PD will put their hands in their pockets and pay for it. My ceiling at night looks like a dogs breakfast shocking workmanship. Re: alfresco plaster ceiling cracking 7Jun 10, 2013 5:36 pm If it looks that bad at nite take some photos and send them to PD requesting that this be repaired to a proper standard. If it cannot be repaired then ask them to replace it. Should add put some day and night photos up so we can have a look. The roof also needs to be insulated the expansion joint is the only option now Re: alfresco plaster ceiling cracking 10Oct 02, 2020 9:41 am Pulse alfresco ceilings are notorious for this, best avoided but apparently can work with joists at 300mm, back blocking, paper tape and wet area board. The roof also needs to be insulated the expansion joint is the only option now Thanks Pulse for your comment π. ceiling all good now. I found interesting in your post that i should get the Alfresco ceiling insulated.π€ ,it had crossed my mind previously . Plus I thought of the garage area too. Our 6m high Cathedral ceiling has 0 insulation, just plaster, wrap and tiles as far as I can tell.
