Expansion joints only needed in very large ceilings 12 meters plus Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: alfresco plaster ceiling cracking 5Jun 10, 2013 10:27 am In the last house we had all that. Paper tape, all backblocked and it still cracked. We even checked for movement and the amount was virtually none. 4 different plasterers could not solve the problem! Thank god for silicon and flat paint.!! The ceiling in the same area in the new house is larger. Only difference is the expansion joint. It only one end of the ceiling that cracks th e other end is fine. plaster isnt an ideal material for exterier use and wondering what PD use to line their Alfresco. maybe cedar might be a better option to use but i dont think PD will put their hands in their pockets and pay for it. My ceiling at night looks like a dogs breakfast shocking workmanship. Re: alfresco plaster ceiling cracking 7Jun 10, 2013 5:36 pm If it looks that bad at nite take some photos and send them to PD requesting that this be repaired to a proper standard. If it cannot be repaired then ask them to replace it. Should add put some day and night photos up so we can have a look. The roof also needs to be insulated the expansion joint is the only option now Re: alfresco plaster ceiling cracking 10Oct 02, 2020 9:41 am Pulse alfresco ceilings are notorious for this, best avoided but apparently can work with joists at 300mm, back blocking, paper tape and wet area board. The roof also needs to be insulated the expansion joint is the only option now Thanks Pulse for your comment π. ceiling all good now. I found interesting in your post that i should get the Alfresco ceiling insulated.π€ ,it had crossed my mind previously . Plus I thought of the garage area too. Our 6m high Cathedral ceiling has 0 insulation, just plaster, wrap and tiles as far as I can tell.
