Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 05, 2013 2:50 pm Hi everyone, Just wanted to know if anyone has had issues with their solar hot water system installed with Henley Houses? I have just finished my house but I find two things with the hot water at the moment: * It takes quite a while for the hot water to come through. I have seen it takes, at times, about 30 seconds of full water running before you get hot water. * The hot water seems to fluctuate. This is particularly annoying when you take showers as the water will turn cold on your for about 5 secs every 1-2 mins. Spoken to Henley and they are saying that the plumbers cannot do much about as it is the way the solar hot water unit behaves and that they might be able to put some valves but at a cost. Any suggestions or similarities around? Thanks Saj Re: Hot Water Issues with Henley House 2Jun 05, 2013 4:05 pm We have solar hot water and certainly don't have any issues like that. In our case the hot water system is downstairs and the shower is upstairs, with the shower almost directly above the hot water unit. Re: Hot Water Issues with Henley House 4Jun 05, 2013 7:44 pm I am assuming you have a solar hot water system with a gas booster module mounted on the side of your home. Locate the module and check its proximity to where you are requiring the hot water to be delivered. If it is a fair distance then it will have to flush out the cold water in your pipes before you receive the hot water, this is normal, hence the delay in delivery (this is the same for most common hotwater systems). If its within a couple of meters and takes 30 seconds then you have an issue (normaly the pipes will go up the wall and across the roof, so take that in consideration with your measurements). When using on demand hot water systems in the shower I always turn hot water on full then add cold water as needed, if you have the temperature fluctuating from hot and cold you will have to increase the flow rate of the water through your shower head. Most water saving devices will have some sort of adjustment. If the flow rate through the hot water booster is too low it will not fire up and will not heat up the water or will fire up for short periods giving you the change in temperatures. Any suggestions or similarities around? Thanks Saj We had exactly the same issue (handover 4 weeks ago). Henley sent the plumber back out and adjusted our pipes/temperature. He also removed some rubber from our showerheads, which gets rid of the cold water issue. However, it still takes a while for the water to warm/heat up... yes up to 30 seconds at some places around the house. Re: Hot Water Issues with Henley House 6Jun 06, 2013 12:41 pm Thank you lourance and namweng. Henley has organised plumbers to come out. Hopefully they will be able to fix this but I am sensing somehow that they are going to try and make money out of this. Will do my best not to let them as I believe this is not acceptable. Will keep you guys posted. Re: Hot Water Issues with Henley House 8Jun 06, 2013 1:51 pm We have a large single storey home with the hot water located on the opposite side to the ensuite shower. Hot water (or cold water in summer!!) normally takes at least 30 seconds to arrive at the ensuite, cause it has so far to travel. But the fluctuating doesn't sound right. Good luck! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Hot Water Issues with Henley House 9Jun 06, 2013 2:29 pm handover was 3 weeks ago. I could possibly live with the time it takes for the hot water to come (although, I would still have to pay for the water that's going unused!) but the temperature fluctuation, is hard.. I sound like Homer Simpsons in the shower when that happens! Re: Hot Water Issues with Henley House 10Jun 07, 2013 9:00 am I can tell you now half of our water bill is just in Service costs $97.00 and that doesn't include the once a year parks and gardens charge. Re: Hot Water Issues with Henley House 11Jun 15, 2013 8:37 am I have had this issue with the hot and cold fluctuating. I discovered (after 12 months of complaining that the solar wasn't working) that the pump was not even plugged in and the water in the tank was cold. So when the water went cold it was due to the gas booster turning off momentarily then kicking back in. Check the obvious things like, Is the pump powered up? Mine was completely missed, even by the manufacturers own plumber. You should feel and hear a low humming vibration when weather permitting if its working. Usually the pumps power lead is hidden behind a cover you cant see unless you take it off and really look. the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 2 13770 I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black.
