Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 03, 2013 5:15 pm would really appreciate it if anyone can share their experience as to what to do on the following scenario. the property i bought was advertised as 3x2 with 1 x 1 self contained granny flat under same roof. even though it has a granny flat (with separate entry), it has been rented out as a whole house before only and therefore only have 1 power meter/gas meter installed. I plan to rent it out as 2 units to maximize rental income. Can anyone advise: 1. is it possible to request Western Power/Synergy to install a 2nd power meter to property? ( alinta also if anyone knows) 2. if possible, the steps and costs involved. is it very expensive? Thank you in advance. You will need to install your own sub-meter, and then read this and work out the costs to each tenant. Any decent sparky and gasfitter can install the sub meters, however depending on how the existing cabling and pipework is configured, there could be some cost in splitting into two separate areas.
