Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 25, 2013 10:28 am Hi everyone, Just hoping to get a little advice, I am currently building a deck off the back of our timber pole home. Once the deck is complete I plan on installing bifold doors to compliment the new deck. Problem is,,,,,I have 3 tie down rods coming down from the roof right where the bifolds need to go. I was thinking of removing the rods, re-framing the wall to take the new doors, and then refit a tie down rod either side of the new door frame. New doors span 2230, the existing wall is 3450w. I'll post some photos when I figure out how! Any help/advice/comment will be gratefully received. Re: Installing bifold doors, can I remove tie down rods? 2May 25, 2013 3:27 pm They are there for a reason - to stop wind uplift on your roof. You could do what you want to do but I'd also be looking at another tie-down from the top plate down onto the lintel beam you will need to install over your proposed doors as well. If you secure that beam to the tie-downs either side of the doorway then it should in theory be nearly as good as it is now. Edit : I should also have said have a quick chat to a structural engineer as well. Stewie Re: Installing bifold doors, can I remove tie down rods? 3May 27, 2013 6:32 pm Thanks for the feedback stewie, I will take your advice and get an engineer around, don't want my roof flying off, we are in a potential cyclone zone. I shouldn't have to put a lintel in though, our house has exposed beams, therefore I should be able to fix the door frame directly to the beam that supports the rafters?..or am I wrong. I'll let you know what the engineer says. Thanks again for the response How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 5900 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11829 You have no photo with your post. Best I can say is to remove an A&L flyscreen don't be afraid to distort the frame almost like a trapezium. It doesn't take a lot of… 1 7063 |
