Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 19, 2013 9:59 pm Hi, Just wondering if anyone has had any experience building on a block with a Vegetation Protection Overlay in Monash City Council area (or other areas in Melbourne). Looking for some general advice regarding how "reasonable" the council is with the removal of trees for a new build... Or have you just removed the trees anyway without any specific permit... These are standard high canopy gums, not heritage protected or anything like that, just general VPO above 10m protected... Also, can anyone recommend a good arborist who is likely to help in preparing reports to remove the trees etc. We're quite happy to replant trees elsewhere on the block (provided they are not too close to the structure, and can't damage the building)... Trying to decide whether to bid on a block with these restrictions... Understand this is not a very specific question, but just after experiences that anyone can share. Thanks. Re: Tree Removal - Vegetation Protection Overlay 2May 19, 2013 10:18 pm In a different council but my property has a VPO. I removed all vegetation except for trees I wanted to keep, but these also happened to be the only ones likely to have required a permit. There appears to have been no check done by council before demolition to check compliance re trees nor afterwards. That being said, our neighbours had tall gums out the front of their property and the council had no issue granting them a permit to have them removed. The tall gums can pose a safety issue dropping branches which was why the neighbour got rid of them. Completed a knock down and rebuild in northern Melbourne. Handover completed 27/09/2013 and now moved in. Re: Tree Removal - Vegetation Protection Overlay 3May 25, 2013 3:27 pm thanks bluesuede...does anyone else have any other advise or experiences?
