Re: Has anyone rectified slab heave successfully 563Jul 10, 2015 2:01 pm I'm in Adelaide and have reactive soil - lots of lovely clay round here! It isn't a side that gets a lot of weather and the 1.5 coverage takes it to the boundary and to the fence, so no rainfall is falling against the house We made the changes about 6 weeks ago, so not long, and compared to last year, it has hardly moved - but with the coming rain, who knows, that could change.... My next step would be to look at the storm water pipe and get a plumber's camera down there, but before I jumped the gun, I wanted to know whether patience is required before the impact of the improved drainage will be known (not a virtue I'm known for....) My thinking is that it isn't the pipe as the movement is restricted to the area that had no eaves - further along the house where the eaves start and the fall of the path is better, there is no movement - however, coincidences do happen, so I'm not ruling it out! Re: Has anyone rectified slab heave successfully 564Jul 10, 2015 2:36 pm Nicoolnocks I'm in Adelaide and have reactive soil - lots of lovely clay round here! You are most probably on Bay of Biscay. During the drought, Adelaide was the worst affected area of Australia for house cracking caused by diminished subsoil moisture levels and Eastern and South Eastern Australia are currently heading into what could be a serious El Nino. The last 9-12 months has already been dry and here in Melbourne, our rainfall over the last 9 months is about 1/3 below the long term average . Just be patient. 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Has anyone rectified slab heave successfully 565Jul 13, 2015 6:32 pm SaveH2o Your a genius, by talking about how dry it is you have broken the dry spell and now it hasn't stopped raining for three days. Your a 100% right though about how dry it has been. If you look a the BOM 33 month rain deficit chart the west and north of melbourne those areas (highly reactive clay, huge new building areas) are in severe deficit . Adelaide is heading down the same track. In places like melton the ground conditions are as dry as I have seen. So if the rains are now coming then Heave we go again. I'm puzzled by all the laughing heads in response to your post. Because despite what can happen or has happened to others, puns are funny. It's called humour. Not making puns or not laughing at them won't fix heave so might as well still be human and crack a joke here an there, right? Your emotional response to a pun was appropriate. Some people might find it in poor taste. That doesn't make it wrong. People need to stop being so sensitive in Internet forums. I am surprised that this scenario is not more frequent. Agreed. I always look at sites like these on the drive between work and home. Every time I see them attempting such deep excavations I start to wonder how they don't collapse more often and how long these structures will actually last!
