Browse Forums General Discussion Re: HIA Contract Help 2May 17, 2013 5:01 pm Our builder stated on my HIA contract 240 days (this includes public holidays and weekends) plus inclement weather days (3mm or more rain as inclement weather with 8 allocated in the 240 days) plus 28 days if it goes across xmas. Edit note : they stated that the building period starts on the day the house is pegged. Our contract states 365 days and although our builder seems confident that we will be in by Christmas I think it's more likely to be the whole 365 days - which brings us to mid-March. We have had a pretty bad run with weather so it's dragging it out. And we are also building a custom ... so will expect it to take that little bit longer. You don't have to sign a contract as-is and can always negotiate and change or even remove conditions. Do your homework and read it all carefully. Many builders will add special conditions and change the vanilla contract and you can guess in whose favour! You are just as entitled to have it changed. Whose money is it after all.
