Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 21, 2013 12:39 pm Hi There, Currently building a home and up to final stage of works. but had a question around GST. My builder is charging me the cost including GST + margin (20%) + GST again. Is this correct, this seems to be double charging GST. Can anyone assist me. thanks Re: GST treatment for variation 2Apr 21, 2013 6:36 pm Need to look at your figures so I can test the calculation by the builder but It should be 1 of 2 ways.
1. (Ex GST Quote + 20%) +GST = total or 2. GST Quote + 20% = total The way he charged it is only for calculating duty/excise then GST on that. Re: GST treatment for variation 3Apr 21, 2013 10:32 pm I would assume at worse it should be Cost inc GST + 20% builders margin & GST on this at worse So lets say $1100 job cost, plus $242 which is builders margin with 10% GST on that. Seems like a double dip to charge GST on the full amount by the builder because your pretty much getting a 30+% markup Re: GST treatment for variation 4Apr 25, 2013 7:45 am I work for a builder and we do our variations Cost + builders margin + GST on the whole lot.
