Ill start~ 1 ) wide hallways . We have 1.2, as they were changed by the drafts guy. We had 900mm on my sketch plan. tHANK YOU IAN. Everyday as we go up and down them, I am grateful for the spaciousness it conveys in our home. 2) double glazing. Warm in winter, don't really need a heater ( maybe for the odd hour in july/ August, we are in nz) and no condensation. We don't get as cold as Aus in winter. Average 12 at night and we have 3 frosts a year, so the double glazing with no fire is ample where we are. But everyone will be different. 3) walk in pantry. No sink, but we have a bench in there, what a dream way to cook. Whip up 50 cupcakes in 3 mins as the food processor and all ingredients are in there. No dragging anything out into the main kitchen. 4) internal access garage. Never had one before, but would not be without one ever in the future. The electric door opener gets kissed daily. 5) 3 bathrooms ( well 2 shower rooms with loos and a full bathroom with bath, in our ensuite. ) When friends/ parents stay the friends have their own room and bathroom opposite and all 5 kids use the ' kids bathroom' I don't have to stress if anyone has left a shark in there. I know...small issues, but soooo embarrassing! Just brings peace of mind if anyone is staying or people coming over , I can clean the 3 rd bathroom and lock the door with my finger nail, so that I know it is nice if they ask to do a dump. I gladly show them the now unlocked room and leave them to it. Peace of mind!! Re: For those in their homes. List 5 things you absolutely L 2Mar 24, 2013 9:57 pm 1. Powder room. No washing hands in the kitchen or laundry because someone is in the shower and you can't use the basin. 2. Butler's pantry with sink. 3. Kid's tv room near minor bedrooms. Teenage boy smells of stale feet, stale farts and stale sweat is confined to one area. 4. Big shower in both bathrooms (900 x 1200) and the main bathroom being big. Sometimes they can be pokey. 5. Double front doors. Love how it looks and practical when bringing in large items. 5. ( see what I did there? lol) High ceilings and high doorways. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: For those in their homes. List 5 things you absolutely L 3Mar 25, 2013 5:03 am Yeah, you cheaaaatttted! Re: For those in their homes. List 5 things you absolutely L 4Mar 25, 2013 5:22 am 1. Our stairs - We upgraded them from MDF & carpet to Victorian Ash with glass balustrade. You walk past them into the main part of the house and everyone stops and admires them. They are just beautiful. There is a void above them with a David Trubridge Coral light which looks amazing. 2. Bath in the ensuite - Another luxury upgrade, but it is so lovely to be able to lay in there after a hard day and just relax. 3. Rain Showerhead - I thought I'd hate it, but is so nice to stand under and have the water come flowing from the roof. 4. Garage - We have never had a garage before, always carport & shed. We did put a shed in as well for all of the gardening stuff etc. 5. Kitchen - I was a bit adventureous with the kitchen colours and I love how it has turned out. It's a really warm and inviting space. There is loads of storage with the scullery and finally I can find everything I need rather than having things hidden in hall cupboards etc like our previous house. Built the Seaview 36 with Rawson Homes - Read about it on my blog http://lamaisondemorgan.blogspot.com.au/ Re: For those in their homes. List 5 things you absolutely L 5Mar 25, 2013 9:32 am Although I am about to build again ... Here are the 5 things I love in my current home (that I built 2 years ago) 1) My Laundry ... It is big with lots and lots of storage. It is the one room in the house that every woman (generally mums) just love. With a bench that runs the full length of the room and 2 sets of double full size closets, there is plenty of storage. 2) My Walk in Robe ... My hubby has decked out the robe with pigeon holes and big long, deep drawers. The shoe space in there is amazing. He has made the most of the somewhat small space 3) The double robe in my study ... great space to hang the 'out of season' clothes. 4) The layout, I love that the living areas are towards the back of the house. From the front of the house, you can never really tell if we are home or not. I love this when we just want a quiet day. The garage entry helps with this, as our cars are always put straight away and never left in the driveway. 5) The outdoor living space. The spa is close enough to the back door that we actually use it all year round, the area is small enough that everyone is together but still enough to have the whole family over and celebrating together. Reasons why I am rebuilding 1) location!!!!! I am too far from the city, with children quickly growing up we need to be close to facilities 2) My kitchen is in the middle of the house, this is the ONLY true regret about this house. The kitchen is somewhat dark and you always need a light on when working in there ... this could be fixed with a skylight if we planned on staying. Re: For those in their homes. List 5 things you absolutely L 6Mar 25, 2013 9:45 am 1. Its Mine 2. Its Mine 3. Its Mine 4. Its Mine 5. Its Mine also like double glaze windows, open space kitchen/dinning/lounge. My man cave & theater room... Re: For those in their homes. List 5 things you absolutely L 8Mar 26, 2013 12:08 am 1. Spotted gum solid floorboards - Everyone that comes to our home comments on how beautiful the floor is and it's so easy to keep clean. 2. Shutters - We have shutters on all windows and I think they are just so beautiful, I sometimes find myself just looking at them.. 3. Butler's pantry with sink - We also have our dishwasher in there so after meal times the plates are cleared to the butler's pantry to be rinsed and packed in the dishwasher, leaving the kitchen mess free. 4. Gas fireplace - so beautiful to watch the flames dancing on a cold day and it warms the entire downstairs. 5. Stone bench tops throughout - I've never had stone tops before and I just love them, so easy to clean. I could go on to add glass splashback (no grout, yay!) or high ceilings but it's only 5 things so I won't. Re: For those in their homes. Re: For those in their homes. List 5 things you absolutely L 11Mar 29, 2013 7:37 am Thank you for your thoughts. Nice to see some of us are still here after building!! Anyone else with their 10 cents worth, or anyone want to add anymore.. Ill let you, cos it is Easter. Re: For those in their homes. List 5 things you absolutely L 12Mar 29, 2013 8:12 am 1. Spotted gum floorboards throughout the house (minus wet areas). Took me 3 months to lay them but they look and feel amazing. 2. Big entrance hall (2200 x 3600) with a feature spotted gum floor. 1st thing people see when they come in and always say "Wow! ) 3. Big walk in pantry, loads of shelves and a big bench 4. Big shower in the ensuite 1200 x 1200 with a rain showerhead that I just love being under. 5. Main bedroom right at the back of the house, tucked away in the corner. Lovely and quiet at night. 5a. Heating/cooling system. Knowing we can have it on and just zone it down to one room instead of heating/cooling the whole house. Re: For those in their homes. List 5 things you absolutely L 13Mar 31, 2013 9:27 pm I love the comments about the spotted gum floors. I am putting them in our new build. Very excited to see them laid now. Im not in yet but one thing I am looking forward to is plenty of cupboards. I only have one linen in our rental and am sick of having nowhere to put anything. https://form.jotform.com/240284569218058 Please spare a moment to fill out this survey form for a project.
