Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 11, 2013 5:56 pm Hi all, We've recently purchased a home with a very solidly built garage in the back yard. The garage has concrete rat walls and a packed gravel floor which gets quite wet after rain even after putting some drains in place (we're part way down a hill in suburbia). We'd like to concrete the floor however screeding (I think) is impossible because of the existing walls. Any suggestions for material we can use? Is it possible to buy concrete pavers thick enough to take the weight of a car? Thanks in advance. I assume you mean 'screeding' when laying the concrete floor? The way the pros do it is to first lay a strip about 300 wide around the walls to the finished level and screed off this Arfur Re: Garage floor options 4Mar 12, 2013 12:33 pm PaulMac Hi and welcome Alan, why would srcreeding be a problem? The problem with screeding the slab as I see it is that the top of the rat wall would be level with the top of the slab (all good so far) but the framing timber on top of the rat wall takes up most of the top of the wall.. There isn't really enough room to move the screed back and forth - at best it's 30mm plus. I guess we could use a shorter screed than the width of the garage floor but I don't think I'm that good at it. Just hoping there may be a way around it. isn't a garage level with the rest of the house a given? pretty sure they 'came around' long time ago. if you have a flat block, the garage is usually level with the rest… 1 13370 CDC Housing Code 3 When to apply Floor Area external face of wall vs Gross Floor Area internal face of wall.
