We chose the 3rd door when were about to sign with another builder. The 1st one looks good too! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Ours is the PMAD101 with translucent glass. From the inside (at night) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ (more pics to come...) Ray. Really? hmmm... we would be willing to pay $700 if we can match the translucent glazing of our doors with the sidelights... But our sidelights are bigger than yours.. like this: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl= ... soft:en-US I wonder if it's because of the size or the tye of door, why we couldn't match the door's translucent glazing with the sidelights. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: translucent glass on front door? 26Apr 22, 2008 4:25 pm Try ringing Corinthian and asking what they make to match.
Our sidelights are matched to our door, but I don't see why they couldn't go with the pivot door. Eg. see here: http://www.doors.com.au/products.php?grp=ext&rnge=pmad Our whole door frame including sidelights came from Corinthian - so they CAN get sidelights from them, but the 'standard' is to get the (in my opinion) crappy sidelights with a timber strip about 1m high, with a choice of 3(?) glass finishes - none of which match the door, from a different supplier and then just hang the feature door. If Corinthian make it, Metricon can get it. Only considerations is, has your bricks been finished? The sidelights have to be in before bricking. Ray. This may not be the only consideration. I wanted matching Corinthian sidelight, said so at selections but couldn't do it as the width allowed for the sidelight (ie the front hallway width) wasn't wide enough and Corinthian ones come in one standard width only. This was way before any bricking done or any construction started, but we had signed intial contract and so the frames had been ordered and in process of being manufactured and couldn't change them. On second thoughts, wouldn't really want hallway any wider as this would take width from adjacent rooms, or garage, and garage is on boundary already so can't take house any further out. This was with a steel frame, may not be an issue with a timber one? but best to get onto it as soon as possible if you want to make any structural changes to the house. We are now having to have the plain side light as Ray describes, plain opaque glass (or could of chosen clear,), not really my intended plan, however as we are having an amplimesh type screen door as well, I suppose the matching look from the outside isn't really relevant anyway. Re: translucent glass on front door? 28Apr 22, 2008 5:00 pm Helyn, there are actually 2 sizes. The standard and a slim size. Also, it isn't a requirement that you have one either side - one on one side is also popular. In fact I have seen houses in our area with NO sidelight and it looks rather strange (I wonder how dark it would be in the entry?).
I can understand that if the frame was being made to a certain size it could be an issue, however M don't use pre-fab frames (at least not here). Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: translucent glass on front door? 29Apr 22, 2008 5:12 pm That's interesting, Ray - no-one told us there were 2 sizes.
I know you don't have to have a sidelight either side, I was only going to have one on one side but width did not allow for that, front hallway is all the same width, 1.4 wide, there is not a wider entry foyer. I have seen houses here too with no sidelight, sometimes by choice and sometimes because hallway is narrow and only wide enough for the door, say 1.2 wide. I think this would be OK light-wise as long as front door had a glass panel(s) rather than solid timber. (like Phoenix's house) The lead would only be in the brass due to contamination during recycling so trace amounts, looking through it won’t expose you to lead. Stainless has 15% chromium too… 0 2586 I would say 2 would be sufficient, unless you are in a windy area Have you seen GlassMate for installing glass pool fencing? 0 1143 The glass/spigot manufacturer will have an installation guide that sets out all those requirements. It will give you distance in from edge etc as they will have had impact… 1 1460 ![]() |
