translucent glass on front door?

Hi everyone, we chose translucent glass for our front door which is a Corinthian Madison PMAD 104. Ive only ever seen clear glass in the display homes but my husband thought this posed a privacy issue. Has anyone seen or have a front door with translucent glass (I can't find any on the net so far) and if so how does it look?

There is a vast range of different glass options if you go looking. Plain glass in a front door.... why would you?

Our house will sit about a metre below street level anyway, so we may stick with plain glass so we can see out from inside the house.

You can get glass that's coloured, frosted, bevelled, washboard, decorative, stained, you name it!

Or you could have plain glass, and have a frosted or decorative film on the inside for a translucent look. Any good glass supplier can show you heaps of options.

Or you colud go clear with a film on the front so people cant see in.

We elected (read - me) to go with a non clear glass doors at the front of the house.

My wife wanted to go "just like the display homes"... :roll:

Wow Matt, that is a pretty (maybe you would prefer handsome) house from the front Matt. The glass looks good too, very reassuring thanks!

Oh and I guess it's a husband thing not wanting the clear glass (or is that a wife thing wanting the display home look)?

I liked the idea of see htrough doors but not when your front door is 6 meters from the street.

If I had 20-30 metres and was up a hill a bit??? Maybe!

The glass works well and matches in when all the blinds (see out - not in) are down also.

As for handsome/pretty...MEH!

I like it and i think it looks good....pretty is good....handsome is good....

I would go with clear glass with venetians... you could always pull them up if you needed to see when guests come from the back of the house. :lol:

We're having translucent glass to the front doors.. but the problem is the sidelights.
M uses a different supplier for the sidelights, thus, can't make it translucent.
We're still thinking of what to do with the sidelights.

They are the glass panels to the left, right and sometimes top of your front door.

We're looking at one of these options:

Number 1 is the one we are considering at the moment. Second option has aluminium venetians encassed in between two sheets of safety glass. You can open/close with the external adjustment mechanism.

Only trouble with the second option is that it doesn't come in special sizes.
