What about a length of ag pipe run down the back to let it drain out slowly? Or is that a bit dodge? Soakwells aren't great on clay but you won't be dealing with large volumes of water (unlike roof drainage) unless you have got underground springs. The flows are likely to be a minor trickle as most of the water is going to have to seep through the clay behind the wall before it gets to the drain. The ag pipe is another good solution (an easy way of making a small soakwell is to to dig a round hole drop a coil of corrugated aggi pipe into it and fill around with 5mm gravel) Make sure the soakwell is at least a couple of m from the house and the retaining wall.
