I'll be doing a mix of bearer and joist and slab. Can anyone tell me if it's the structural engineer or the builder who design the actual specs of the bearer and joist plan? ie size, position, spacing or bearers and joists. What about frame headers(lintels) above windows and doors, as well as bracing? Thanks in advance. So would the engineer or the builder usually be the one to consult the span tables and come up with the layout? We rarely use an engineer and we do a lot of this sort of work. My experience is with an engineer, the cost ends up higher. cheers The engineering is the engineering.
