We have square set cornice. Where the wall meets the roof, the plaster/and/or paint is coming away. Basically, it looks like they have used a tape of some description along the join of wall and roof, and this is coming away from the plaster. It looks like a whole strip of paint is coming away from the plaster in one long line. This is happening pretty much all over the house. (highly annoying!!) Question: What is the cause? (crappy workmanship, defective products, plasterer or painter?) What should I expect the builder to do to fix it? (have already asked them to come back, which he has, and has acknowledged the fault) thanks in advance, Re: Cornice issue - Plaster and Paint cracking and coming aw 2Feb 12, 2013 11:00 am Sounds like bad workmanship. Cracking is common and expected but not to the point that after a month that plaster starts to fall away! You should have a 3 month maintenance visit by the builder. They are expected to complete items as you said. I would just get reassurance from them (in an email?) that such items would be fixed and what day should you be expected to tee up a day with them.
