Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 29, 2013 5:42 pm Hi folks I wonder if anyone could give me a guide as to what price per m2 I could expect to paint internal walls and doors? No preparation, surfaces already painted - no undercoat needed - just basic one colour painting on internal walls and doors. I just need the going industry rate (if anyone knows what that might be). I know it will be a range and I'm happy to use the middle of the road figure. It will be adjusted down if I submit a figure too high - but it sure as hell won't be adjusted up if I quote too low (I don't want to stab in the dark though and quote too high and appear greedy - even though it will be adjusted down, if ya know what I mean). I have checked the archicentre cost guide - and from memory they say between $11-$24 m2 - so I would happily put down $18 for eg - but for everything else I have ever asked about the archicentre cost guide, I am told they are quite conservative (low) - so I don't want to shoot myself in the foot by claiming too little because like I said, we won't get more than we ask for. I also don't want to waste painters' time to come and quote when it could be months that we actually proceed with the job (if at all). Thanks for any help. HHCIB Re: Average cost of internal painting 2Jan 29, 2013 6:25 pm When you say no preparation needed- so the walls are being painted a similar colour? You are cleaning the walls yourself? You are doing the skirtings and architraves yourself? What do you mean "you'll put down $18" I don't want to appear greedy? are you estimating how much the job will cost? Or are you doing a job and want to know how much you should charge? Prices vary because some painters are professionals and some are handymen who paint. Sorry, don't know a m2 price. I do inside painting myself. Re: Average cost of internal painting 3Jan 29, 2013 8:17 pm Sorry - a bit ambiguous.... We are not doing the job - we want to recoup some $$ off somebody else for a very sub-standard paint job so we need to submit a claim for the value of what painting work we think needs doing/rectifying. And as I said, we don't want to waste painters time in coming and quoting as we may not end up using them. We just want to submit a reasonable figure and not appear greedy - or short change ourselves. As for the preparation - so yes, walls are already painted but need to be painted another coat in the same colour. Some areas might need two coats - but to be reasonable, we are just going to claim one coat (I think). No surface preparation (as in filling holes etc) - but yes, probably need washing prior to painting. Don't think we will bother with architraves and skirting etc - but doors themselves do need another coat. Anyway, if there was a rough price per m2 - we can do the sums based on one coat or two/architraves/no architraves etc. (And not sure if any price guidelines include the cost of the paint - but this needs to be included in our quote). Thanks again. HHCIB Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7889 Thanks. Yeh ideally that would have been good, but have progressed too far now. Hoping some well placed internal walls fixed up into the battens will provide some… 2 5370 3 10182 |
