Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 24, 2013 9:24 am We are going to buy a block of land in QLD, are yet to choose our builder, but want to get a grasp on the process and have a few questions, some are probably sillly To secure a block of land, do we need to pay a deposit? What sort of $$ is normal? Once we have our mortgage for our block of land, we will then be starting to look at the build. To get the build started, a builder generally wants a deposit, do they tend to work on %? We will use the 15k building government grant if we can as a direct deposit to the builder, does anyone know if this would be accepted? If not, we will continue to save for a few extra months, if we can get things started sooner we will do which is why we thought this might be an option. We will be buying our land in the next 2 months, is there a program around where you can draw up your block of land, dummy up a house plan and play around with the positioning on the block? I'm sure there will be something on this forum somewhere, but is there a good link for example, "a dummies guide to building" ??? Thanks for answering my questions! Been in for 3 months now and still waiting for the grants to be paid. Block deposit is negotiable, for example I paid a small deposit in exchange for a quick settlement. Builders first payment on signing was, I think, 5 or 10% of the contract price. Can someone please offer some advice? Im DESPERATE. Because I'm completely and utterly exhausted.
