Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 24, 2013 12:09 am Hi, I am talking to a few building companies for our first home. As of now I shortlisted Long Island Homes and Boutique Homes and a bit lean towards LIH. Has anyone built with them before in Geelong please? Would like to know about their quality, site supervisor, etc. Thank you very much! Re: Anyone built with Long Island Homes around Geelong VIC? 2Jan 24, 2013 8:06 am Hi I'm currently building with LIH and upto the lockup stage in Werribee and they have been good, no issues as yet and always pleasant (that includes the tradies). I put a work colleague onto them and he had bought a incomplete home a few months back from a bankrupt builder and had it completed by LIH and was very pleased with the result. You can follow my journey from the link in my sig. Thanks for sharing and hope we will proceed with them further. BTW, I noticed that LIH's inclusion on appliances are the "Tisira" brand but I have never heard of it. Checked Harvey Norman and they seem to be cheap and not quite up to the standard of the rest of the house. Boutique Homes offer ILVE brand which is at least more expensive in Harvey Norman. Any comments from you and your friend on this issue please? Cheers Re: Anyone built with Long Island Homes around Geelong VIC? 4Jan 25, 2013 5:02 am doubletoplei BTW, I noticed that LIH's inclusion on appliances are the "Tisira" brand but I have never heard of it. Any comments from you and your friend on this issue please? Cheers My wife is a bit picky about kitchen stuff so we didn’t even look at kitchen appliances and we have purchased our own. LIH are more than happy to refund the appliances in the inclustion and install whatever you want. We went to Good guys and purchased a free standing oven and rang hood, all we had to do was supply LIH the specs so the cabinetry and fitting could be made to accommodate the appliances. Then they will install them when its time. This is normaly done after handover due to thieft issues. Re: Anyone built with Long Island Homes around Geelong VIC? 6Jan 25, 2013 9:02 pm Hi. We are building with LIH in Geelong and are at Pre Site Stage - just waiting on the building permit so they can start on site. We are very happy with LIH so far, service has been excellent and we are looking forward to seeing our new home come to life and the end result. Also considered building with Boutique Homes and DFH but when we compared them alll we felt LIH was a better choice. We had a choice of the standard Tisira kitchen appliances or upgrade to Ariston with them for $1k extra. Chose the Ariston as we had never heard of Tisira. Hi ruffy01, thanks very much for your sharing! Glad to know another positive story with LIH. Actually I am also considering Boutique Homes, but a bit lean forward to LIH due to the fact that they offer free floor plan modifications. For the appliances, upgrade at $1k sounds not too bad, need to dig more though. cheers! Re: Anyone built with Long Island Homes around Geelong VIC? 8Jan 28, 2013 8:26 pm I noticed a problem about LIH's termite treatment inclusion. Typical builders provide Part A of termite treatment and LIH provide part B. I used to think part B is inclusive of part A and better, until I read a formal document saying that Part A and Part B are actually separate treatment. What kind of termite treatment is listed in your contract (B only or A+B)? Re: Anyone built with Long Island Homes around Geelong VIC? 9Jan 29, 2013 12:01 pm Hi doubletoplei, I am also building with LIH in Tarneit. We have signed the contract couple of weeks back. I have checked my contract and it says "Upgraded Termite protection system". Don't know if that means A or B. Re: Anyone built with Long Island Homes around Geelong VIC? 10Jan 29, 2013 12:24 pm westside Hi doubletoplei, I am also building with LIH in Tarneit. We have signed the contract couple of weeks back. I thought they should have a clearer statement about everything in the contract, and I did no see why part B is an upgrade of Part A, they are supposed to complement each other. Anyway, I will have another meeting with them tomorrow and I will update you soon. I had a meeting with them today and they confirmed that they will have Part A+B for termites. A good news. Re: Anyone built with Long Island Homes around Geelong VIC? 13Jan 30, 2013 7:57 pm Hi everyone. It is good to know that LIH use a good Termite system. They also allowed us to customize our floor plan without charging any extra and they had no hesitation in building for us in an established area. Another volume builder we considered told us that they only build in new estates!!! Cheers. Re: Anyone built with Long Island Homes around Geelong VIC? 14Jan 31, 2013 11:14 pm ruffy01 Hi everyone. Put in the deposit with LIH today, they promised fully refundable before contract and soil test, which is good. However, we did not get the best deal, their pre-X'mas promotion is better and they were $3k cheaper that time. In total we paid about $6k more than just a few weeks back...Not sure what is their next month's promotion... Re: Anyone built with Long Island Homes around Geelong VIC? 16Feb 01, 2013 10:35 pm ruffy01 Hi doubletoplei. Congratulations on taking the first step with LIH. Did you choose one of their plans or custom? Where in the Geelong area are you building? Hi ruffy01, we chose their Cayman 250 plan but wanted to make some minor changes. We bought a lot in Armstrong Mt Duneed from Villawood, just on the other side of Torquay road. The land is supposed to be titled late 2013 or early 2014, still a long way to go... And I still have a question in my mind: our lot is 12.5m wide, I saw most other builders' floor plans suitable for 12.5m are actually 11.3m wide. The plan I chose is actually 11.5m wide. On their website they said minimum width is 13m but one senior person from LIH told me they can do it but need to build the garage exactly on one side boundary. I am still not too sure about this and I have a feeling that he told me this just to win the contract. Has anyone built a 11.5m wide house on a 12.5m wide lot please? wondering anyone built with omaxe homes and care to share their experiences. thanks 0 13777 Hi we are looking to talk to people who have built with them recently.
