Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 23, 2013 9:17 am We are looking at building a custom build, and to date we have been extremely happy with everything we have seen from Carter Grange, the only fault is that they do not seem convinced that we will ACTUALLY build with them. We keep getting comments along the lines of 'IF you build with us' ... This is really off putting, and has made us question if they actually have any experience doing a TRUE custom build (ie. walk in with a blank piece of paper and start from scratch) and not just a variation of their own floor plans. I have looked at forums, their brochures and their website and although their is mention of building to your needs, there is no mention of procedures and what not for custom build - which their sales person said they did do, hence why we started dealing with them. To date we have been extremely happy with the service we have received, loved their staff, their pricing fits what we are willing to spend, their inclusions seem impressive ... however we are yet to really see the costs of upgrades. But these little comments are really off-putting and make us question why they keep reminding us that we should be looking elsewhere, when (in my opinion) they should be convincing us that they are the builder for us. Has anyone heard of them doing customer builds before? Is this just the way ALL builders speak to their customers - I have built with Henley twice before and can't remember having these conversations. Has anyone had any dealings with CG and noted that this is the way they speak to ALL clients? Re: Does anyone know anything about Carter Grange? 3Jan 24, 2013 8:33 am Sorry I babbled on a little, My really questions are... -Has anyone ever heard of CG doing a full custom build (custom from start, not just changing one of their floor plans)? - Is this 'non-committal' stance normal? Do all builders act like the client is going to run away to another builder, or has anyone else experienced this from CG? We are finding their stance, extremely off putting (however this is the only fault we can really find with them). Re: Does anyone know anything about Carter Grange? 4Jan 27, 2013 5:19 pm Hi Agape
Has anyone ever heard of CG doing a full custom build (custom from start, not just changing one of their floor plans)?
We've started this with CG -we had some reasonably clear ideas of what we wanted, but couldn't see in any standard CG designs, so we spent about 2 hours with a CG designer to get our basic design on paper, and then had a rough quote prepared. Some of the features (bathroom, laundry) have the same layout as their standard design, which as fine for us, but otherwise our proposed design is very different form any of their standard range. We're just about to receive quotes for site costs, and then; we'll probably decide whether to go ahead, with some additional changes still to go in. We're not planning on starting building till later this year, so we're not in a hurry...so I can't really comment on CG being non-committal, as we're not ready in any case... Re: Does anyone know anything about Carter Grange? 5Jan 27, 2013 6:18 pm That is excellent to hear, we are at the pretty same stage. We have had plans drawn up by an architect to suit out block (nothing taken from CG designs because the block is so short), we have sat down and they have given us a quick quote (nothing on paper), we have approved Planning Permits (which they have been great in helping us achieve). We have just been allocated a second admin person to deal with, up until this point we dealt with Steve we have now been handed over to Frank. We have a planned meeting with Frank in a few weeks, at this point we are again to be given a rough quote, including all site costs, but in the extras we want included internally. We are really looking forward to getting to the tender stage, as we would like to be in the house by the end of THIS year. Re: Does anyone know anything about Carter Grange? 6Jan 28, 2013 7:22 am We are at Hebel stage in a redesigned cg home, have one friend at demolition stage and another at frame stage with a fully customised home which they designed themselves with cg. We are all extremely happy so far! I think that perhaps they are used to people shopping around and are not too pushy. We are thrilled with our design, our value for money, our service from cg and with how pro active they have been getting us on site and up and running.( we had to wait 2 1/2 years for our land!) On site our ss has been efficient, great to communicate with and organised. Feeling confident we made the best choice in carter grange. We spent close to 2 years in a process with TA. It was horrible..... we got to tender, and the first cut was 50% over our budget which "they care such about meeting ".
