Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 14, 2013 1:43 pm I have just bought a camper trailer and am looking to convert my side fence & small access gate into 2 access gates & park the trailer behind it. My question is, is it possible to convert the fence part into a swinging gate and keep the existing gate (this having 2 swinging gates to allow the trailer to be parked behind & secure)? See pic for configuration. Wondering if it is worth the effort or to just buy a gate to fit - keeping in mind I am trying to keep the costs to the bare minimum! You would need to add a frame to the re-used fence section to support the hinges and help it support it's own weight, probably upgrade the post the hinges attach to. It would also depend if you want to colour-match the new frame or if you don't mind using whatever you can get. If you re not going to be opening it very often, perhaps converting it to a removable fence panel might be cheaper? Using bolts of some sort to attach to fence and a drop-in boot inset into the ground for the post - it might take you a half a minute to undo and remove the panel instead of 5 seconds to swing the gate when you want to move the trailor through, but it might also be a cheaper/easier conversion right now.
