Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 07, 2013 8:19 pm Is it weird to have doors on both sides of an alfresco area? (is it still considered alfresco). For example you have doors from the house to the alfresco that can be opened, but also doors from the alfresco to outside - allowing you to basically use the area as indoor or outdoor. In summer you might open the outside doors, and close them in winter so the space is still useable. Anyone seen interesting designs that allow this sort of thing? Re: Closed in Alfresco area? Is it weird? 2Jan 08, 2013 5:16 pm Hi, That's our plan - although we are planning on using flyscreen doors from the alfresco to the outside. <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: Closed in Alfresco area? Is it weird? 5Jan 08, 2013 10:12 pm So in essence you are saying you want a sliding/stacker/bi-fold door that leads to another room that has a sliding/stacker/bi-fold? I guess if you finish the room like it is an outdoor alfresco it could be one. Otherwise I would say it is another room. Like a second lounge/family/rumpus/games etc. Maybe you could put stacker/bi-fold doors on 2 sides that you open up a bit like this picture http://buybuildingsupplies.com.au/image ... o-main.jpg but around the alfresco part. Then it will feel more like an alfresco when the doors are open rather than an extension of your family/living room. If you know what I mean Re: Closed in Alfresco area? Hi HouseOB This is what we wanted to do with our new build but were told it will then be classed as another room part of the dwelling and no longer an alfresco and with a price tag of $8,000!! Alfresco blinds it is for us :/ would look fantastic tho Re: Closed in Alfresco area? It is something that can also be added at a later date. Re: Closed in Alfresco area? Couldn't say sorry but they need to slab the whole alfresco area and its then classed as an extra room when they submit it to council so our sale guy told us but I'm sure if you do it afterwards it would be fine yes the $8,000 was the price for two lots of stacker doors not adding in the cost of the pad under the alfresco. Confusing sorry :/ Re: Closed in Alfresco area? Is it weird? 9Jan 08, 2013 10:32 pm Fair enough. I dunno, as much as i would love to have an alfresco area, I just think it wouldn't get as much use as if it was just another family room or something. Especially in winter. Would kind of be nice to have an alfresco area that kids could run around in in summer, then close it off and can still be used in winter. Re: Closed in Alfresco area? Stacker doors I'm sure you could add later on and gives you the option to use the room as a multi purpose area. Goodluck with what you decide Re: Closed in Alfresco area? Is it weird? 11Jan 09, 2013 7:04 am Yep, that is exactly what I have done. Fully enclosed with stacker doors and fly screens. Have installed a BBQ, sink and cooktop so these days it is being used more as a 'dirty kitchen' rather than as an alfresco. Re: Closed in Alfresco area? Is it weird? 12Jan 09, 2013 8:02 am A member here did exactly that a few years back (post-handover) and posted photos...I'll see if I can find the thread later. Our alfresco room has three enclosed sides, with bifold doors leading from the house on two sides and people constantly suggest we should add cafe blinds or some kind of doors to the opening - but we like it open.
