Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 05, 2013 11:51 pm First time at this so apologies straight up I have two things: 1. I'm wanting to remove an old window-rattler aircon and then board up the hole. Am I best nailing/screwing the board on the external/internal wall? (I have left over blueboard that I was going to use) 2. Does anyone know how much drama is involved in demolishing a concrete swimming pool that was constructed when Noah was still a baby? THANK YOU! Re: removing aircon and demolishing pool?? Help please :) 2Jan 06, 2013 9:29 am A bit cut the coping and enough to be able to cover, smash a few holes in the bottom, fill and compact it. Would be my thoughts... some others might have a clue, I'm sure they will comment now Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: removing aircon and demolishing pool?? Help please :) 3Jan 06, 2013 9:47 am onc_artisan is right! Filling the pool with soil or sand and leaving the shell in the ground is the most economical solution otherwise it is a major jack hammer demolition job. Don't do it unless there is a reason you have to. Help please :) 4Jan 06, 2013 9:47 pm Thank you both for your input.. I had a feeling it would be something along those lines. No, I don't have to fill it in, but I need to do something. The previous owners built it (he was an engineer) and claimed that the pool was the retaining wall. I can see how that would be the case because it's huge and solid, but the problem is, is that he didn't retain the paving/pool fencing around it. Subsequently, the concrete footings of the pool fence are showing and the paving around the pool (which is at different depths around) are falling away. To upgrade the area would require a retaining wall, pool liner (the concrete is all stained and nothing will remove them), new fence and paving (or something) around the pool. I was thinking that if I could build the retaning wall (needs doing anyway) and then smash in the pool (technically speaking) and turf the area, that it that it would be cheaper (??) and be usable all year round...... (not to mention the satisfaction of taking out any frustration... ) Thoughts please people?? Doing it on my own and need ideas.. It's seriously doing my head in Shanks Re: removing aircon and demolishing pool?? Help please :) 5Jan 06, 2013 9:57 pm Can you post some photos? Help please :) 8Jan 07, 2013 3:27 pm just another idea You could just empty the pool and fill with soil and build timber floor deck over it and simply use outdoor elevated deck as part of your landscape. Probably the most practical solution.
