Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 29, 2012 11:57 am We have a brick house on a steep block with an extension on the downhill side. Over the years, the extension has shifted, and has had to be lifted approximately 50mm. Now the extension appears to be moving sideways, opening up gaps between the original brick veneer building, and the extension, also brick veneer. The external gaps vary from 10 to 40mm, spanning one storey vertically. Internally, there are similar gaps opening up between the plasterboard sheets in the walls and ceiling. The cornice has become separated from walls and ceiling. The external gaps have been covered with aluminium angle and secured with silicone? adhesive, but the continued shifting of the building has separated the aluminium from the masonry. Can anybody suggest a suitable approach to filling the external and internal gaps, which will allow for future movement of the structure, and eliminate the draughts which have become strong enough to open and close doors in the house.
