Seems pretty silly when your talking 12 inches, why wouldn't the plumber just put the downpipe above the drain??? Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. Re: Downpipes and drains Q 7Dec 27, 2012 9:32 pm So how exactly will the downpipes connect to the soakwell plumbing?? Anyone??? Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. Were they done before the downpipes? if you did you will have to move them or repipe. If they did and you have it in contract that they will connect them to your downpipes then they will have to sort it out. Did you pay for a soakwell for every downpipe? Check your contract/agreement. Re: Downpipes and drains Q 10Dec 29, 2012 10:07 pm Pretty sure there are pipe connector things that connect soakwell to downpipe. It should meet together level with the ground. As in, you shouldn't see the pipes, you should only see the downpipe going straight into the ground, if that makes sense. If you did soakwells yourself, you'll just have to buy the connector things. By the way I'm no expert, this is just what I've figured out from looking at heaps of diagrams and stuff. All downpipes are to be connected to 3 soakwells (the big 1200mm concrete ones). Guess we will have to wait and see what they do, it just seems a bit nonsensical to put a drain pipe in one spot and then a downpipe a foot and a half away and then have to connect them up. :/ Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. So either the roof plumber or the person who dug the siakwells. Though usually the plumber follows the plans pretty closely some times they have to move a downpipe slightly from plan position it's usually not much at all. 2 Re: Downpipes and drains Q 13May 29, 2013 10:08 am Downpipe location is a complex thing. We usually leave this to the licensed roof plumber who has to do it right and issue a certificate of compliance. Then, after, the other work is done to match the location of the pops. This is the spot on the gutter for downpipe attachement. It is a cart before the horse. Actually happened not long ago to me. We were doing a lock-up job and the owner got a bit ahead of themselves. Just not understanding the way it works and not reading the plans. Can be fixed. Re: Downpipes and drains Q 14May 29, 2013 4:39 pm I disagree Building design is art, skill and a profession. This is why architects do degrees and architectural draftsperson diplomas. That is so they know what they are doing, to make sure building elements are correctly specified and fitted. Just as your house has to fit on the block so should every element be designed for functionality and appearance. Then the builder has to follow the plans and specifications. That is why roof is designed from the top down, gutters sized, downpipes positioned and drainage laid out. So why leave it to the plumber? The only explanation I have is that the builders are using unqualified and incompetent designers and I have seen plenty of evidence of that. If a draftie does not know where to put downpipes and brickwork articulation joints (they are supposed to know the regulations) what is he getting paid for? Please enlighten me otherwise.
