Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 13, 2012 6:11 am hi all am building a new home with adenbrook . just wondering if anyone has anyone has ideas as to steps, from the portico to the driveway just a couple of steps needed. we have a suggestion of merbau steps which would suit with the merbau posts and sunburst door in natural stain. but do the merbau rot over time and need replacing. any pics or ideas would be greatly appreciated thank you Re: have front portico need suggestions on steps 2Dec 13, 2012 8:45 am All timber will fade over time and not look quite not as new as when it first went in despite how much sanding and re-coating you do. Some species like merbau are very good outside and won't rot for a long time. If all you are doing is a couple of steps, then if after a few years it did start to look a bit tired, either sand and re-coat or the cost of replacing it wouldn't be very much at all.
